AI Sessions
Start an AI CLI tool (claude, opencode or codex) in the folder of a project. The tool runs in a headless terminal that comes to the front when the session starts.
Open the AI Launcher
| From | Action |
|---|---|
| Project page | Click New AI session next to the project name. |
| Keyboard | Press ⌘+J (Ctrl+J on Windows and Linux). |
| Project switcher | Press ⌘+K (Ctrl+K), select a project, then press Tab. |
| Headless terminal | Click the sparkle button in the top bar of the window. |
| Top bar of the app | Click New AI session outside a project. The session starts in the AI Session Folder. See Settings. |
The shortcut opens the launcher for the project of the focused headless terminal. If no headless terminal has focus, it opens the launcher for the open project on the project page. The shortcut does nothing on other pages.
On the dashboard, the sparkle icon (Start AI session) on a project card starts a blank session with your default tool. It does not open the launcher.
Start a Session
- Type the task. The first line becomes the title of the session.
- Optional: select a different tool in the tool menu at the bottom left.
- Optional: change the flags in the flags field. For the default tool, the field shows the value of AI CLI Tool Arguments first.
- Press Enter or click Launch.
Press Shift+Enter for a new line.
With an empty prompt, the button is Start session and the tool starts with no prompt. When you typed text, click Start blank to ignore it and start with no prompt.
A session with no prompt gets a numbered name in each folder, for example Session 1 and Session 2.
Resume with flags
When the flags resume an earlier session (for example --resume or --continue), the button is Resume session. If you typed a message, DevWorkspace Pro sends it into that session. No new session starts.
If the flags conflict, the launcher shows what to change, and you cannot launch until you fix the flags.
Send to AI
Other features send a prepared prompt to your default AI tool. A Send to AI dialog shows the prompt. Optional: type more text in Additional details. DevWorkspace Pro adds it to the end of the prompt. Click Send, or press ⌘+Enter (Ctrl+Enter).
| Feature | Prompt | Folder |
|---|---|---|
| Logs | The log entry and its stack trace | The open project |
| GitHub issues | The issue title, description and comments | The open project |
| GitHub Actions | The failed run, job and step, and the end of the log | The open project |
| Focus Pad | The task text | The project that you select in the dialog |
Settings
Open Preferences → Focus Pad:
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| AI CLI Tool | The default tool: claude (default), opencode or codex. Send to AI always uses this tool. The launcher selects it first. |
| AI CLI Tool Arguments | Extra arguments, for example --dangerously-skip-permissions for claude or --yolo for codex. DevWorkspace Pro adds them only when the session uses the default tool. The launcher shows them in the flags field, where you can change them for one session. |
| AI Session Folder | The folder for sessions that you start with New AI session outside a project. Empty (default) uses your home folder. You can start the path with ~/. |
| Option | Tool |
|---|---|
claude | Claude Code |
opencode | OpenCode |
codex | Codex CLI |
The tool must be installed and on your PATH.
Windows: cmd and Windows PowerShell 5.1
cmd and Windows PowerShell 5.1 cannot pass a prompt with line breaks or double quotes to a program. With these shells, DevWorkspace Pro writes the prompt to a file in your temporary folder and tells the AI tool to read that file. The tool can ask your permission to read it. DevWorkspace Pro deletes these files after one day. With PowerShell 7 (pwsh), the tool gets the prompt directly.
Resume After Restart
If you quit DevWorkspace Pro during an AI session, you can continue it later. The button next to New AI session shows the number of unfinished sessions of the project. See Session Resume.
