Services & Addons

Monitor and control the DDEV services of a project, and enable or disable DDEV add-ons.

Services

The Services card on the Overview tab shows a row for each service of the project. Each row shows:

  • A status dot and the service name
  • The exposed ports
  • The Docker image
  • CPU and memory usage

Hover a row to see its Start / Stop and Restart buttons. While a service starts, stops or restarts, its button shows a spinner, and the other button is disabled. The progress stays when you go to a different tab or project and come back.

Click the refresh button in the card header to update the CPU and memory values.

Remove a service

Hover a row and click the Remove (trash) button. A dialog tells you what the app does. Click Remove to continue.

The service comes fromThe app does this
A DDEV add-onRuns ddev add-on remove <add-on>
A .ddev/docker-compose.<name>.yaml file that you addedMoves the file to the Trash. You can put it back from the Trash.

If the compose file or add-on has more than one service, the dialog lists the other services. They are removed too.

If the project is running, the button is Remove and restart. The project restarts to stop the removed container.

You cannot remove web, db or xhgui, because DDEV supplies them. You also cannot remove a service from a compose file that also changes one of these services (for example docker-compose.override.yaml).

TIP

A stopped project shows only db, web and xhgui. Start the project to see and remove its other services.

Troubleshooting

ProblemWhat to do
The service does not startMake sure no other app uses the same port.
A service has no Remove buttonDDEV supplies the service, or its compose file also changes web, db or xhgui. Edit the file in .ddev yourself.

Service Monitoring

To check that your live website is up, use Health › Uptime. See Uptime Monitoring.

Addons

  1. Click Recipes at the right end of the tab bar, then click Addons.
  2. Turn the switch of each add-on on or off. Click Refresh to load the list again.
  3. Click Save.

The app enables and disables the add-ons, then restarts the project once. Select all your changes before you click Save, so the project restarts only one time.

If you enable ddev-share-cf and cloudflared is not installed, the app asks if you want to install it. See the Cloudflare Tunnel recipe.
