Uptime Monitoring
The Uptime sub-tab of the Health tab checks that your live website or service is up. Our servers store your monitors and do the checks, not your computer. When a URL stops, you get an email.
Health › Uptime is available for all projects. When a monitor is down, the Health tab label shows a red dot. This is different from log monitoring, which reads log files on your server.
Licence
Uptime monitors need an active licence. If your licence is not active, the sub-tab shows Your licence is not active. Click Activate licence to open the licence page. Our servers do not check the monitors of a licence that is not active.
The monitor list
The sub-tab shows the monitors of the project. Each monitor shows:
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Status | Up: the last check was successful. Down: the last check failed. Waiting: our servers did not check the URL yet. |
| Name and URL | The values that you entered. |
| Last check | For example 5 min ago, or Not checked yet. Move the pointer over it to see the exact time. |
| Interval | For example Every 5 min or Every hour. |
| Uptime | The uptime in the last 24 hours. Green is 99% or more, orange is 95% or more, red is less than 95%. — % means no check yet. |
Each monitor also has these buttons:
- Open site: opens the URL in your browser.
- Edit on website: opens the edit page of the monitor in your DevWorkspace Pro dashboard.
- Delete monitor: see Delete a monitor.
To get the latest status, click Refresh. The list also loads again when you go to a different project.
Add a monitor
- Click Add monitor.
- Fill in the fields:
| Field | Default | Limits |
|---|---|---|
| Name | The project name | Required. Maximum 255 characters. |
| URL | Must start with http:// or https://. Must be a public URL. | |
| Check every (minutes) | 5 | 1 to 1440 |
| Send an alert after this number of failed checks | 3 | 1 to 10 |
- Click Add monitor.
A notification shows the URL and the interval. The first check occurs soon after.
Use a higher number of failed checks to ignore short outages. The alert comes only when that number of checks in a row fail.
Local URLs are not accepted
Checks run from our servers, so our servers cannot get to a URL on your computer or on your local network. The form does not accept these URLs:
*.ddev.site,*.test,*.local,*.localhost,*.internal,*.lanand*.home.arpalocalhost, and other host names without a dot- Private and loopback IP addresses, for example
127.0.0.1,10.x.x.x,192.168.x.xand::1
When you type a local URL, the form shows Checks run from our servers. Use a public URL. and Add monitor is disabled.
Limit
You can have a maximum of 20 monitors for each licence. The count includes the monitors of all your projects. The badge next to the title shows the count, for example 3 of 20. At 20, Add monitor is disabled. Delete a monitor to add a new one.
How checks work
At each interval, our servers send a GET request to the URL:
- A response with a
2xxstatus is a successful check. - The servers follow redirects.
- A check fails if the response is too slow, if the status is not
2xx, or if the connection fails.
Email alerts
Our servers send the email to the address of your DevWorkspace Pro account:
| When | Contents | |
|---|---|---|
| Service Down | The number of failed checks in a row gets to your alert number | Name, URL, number of failed checks, and the time of the first failed check |
| Service Restored | The first successful check after a Down email | Name, URL, downtime in minutes, and the time of the recovery |
You get one Down email for each outage. If the URL comes back before your alert number, you get no email.
Edit a monitor
Click Edit on website on the monitor. The edit page in your dashboard opens in your browser. When you change the URL or the interval, the next check occurs soon after. Click Refresh in the sub-tab to see your changes.
Delete a monitor
- Click Delete monitor on the monitor.
- Click Delete to confirm.
Our servers stop the checks and delete the check history of the monitor.
