Eye Care
Eye care reminds you to rest your eyes. It uses the 20-20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something at least 20 feet (6 m) away for 20 seconds, and blink 20 times.
Turn On Eye Care
Turn on Eye care in Preferences → Utilities. The footer of the section shows the time to the next break.
Settings
| Setting | Default | Range | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Break every (minutes) | 20 | 5 to 120 | Minutes of screen time between breaks |
| Break length (seconds) | 20 | 10 to 300 | How long each break lasts |
| Play a soft sound | On | A soft chime when a break starts and when it ends |
To see a break now, click Take a break now.
During a Break
- All your screens become dim. You can still see through the dim layer.
- Your clicks and typing still work. The dim layer does not take the keyboard focus, so a build, a call or a terminal command continues.
| Button | Result |
|---|---|
| Snooze 5 min | Closes the break. The next break starts in 5 minutes. |
| Skip | Closes the break. The next break starts after the full interval. |
When the countdown ends, the card shows Done for a short time. Then the break closes and a new interval starts.
How Screen Time Is Counted
- The interval counts only while the DevWorkspace Pro main window is open. When you close the main window, no breaks start.
- If you do not use the keyboard or mouse for a few minutes, eye care counts it as a rest and starts a new interval.
- When you lock the screen or your computer goes to sleep, a new interval starts.
